A technical product manager is a PM with strong technical experience who is generally focused on the product’s more technical elements. A technical product manager collaborates closely with the engineering team than with the business, sales, and marketing teams. While every product manager in a technology business must have some degree of technical expertise in order to be successful, technical PMs bring a strong technical background to the position. Technical PMs may end up owning certain components of the product suite, or they may be utilized ad hoc as an expert able to counsel on technical aspects of various projects.
